About
The intervention is the job
What we do
Paid work, practical learning and a route forward
TechStart is a UK not-for-profit social enterprise based in White City, West London. We create paid opportunities for young people and surround them with training, mentoring and access to professional networks.
Technology is an important part of what we do, but participants also move into business, digital marketing, operations, consulting and entrepreneurship.
When we say "the intervention is the job", we mean that a real role, with real expectations and real support, does more than a course on its own ever could.
Founder story
It started with a car deposit
Founder Sam Liu had been saving for a car. Instead, he used the money to employ a 17-year-old.
Watching that young person take on responsibility, get paid for it and grow in confidence showed him what was missing for many young people: not ability, but a first real chance, patient support and access to people who could open doors.
TechStart grew from that experience. The aim is to give young people the tools to fish for life: skills, confidence and a network they keep long after their time with us.
Our people
